Dr. Florine Pascale NARINX: “Stem cells therapy in the treatment of immune-mediated keratitis in horses”

Dr. Florine Pascale NARINX (ECVO resident, Veterinary teaching hospital of the University of Liège, Belgium) and his collaborators

Equine immune-mediated keratitis (IMMK) is an idiopathic nonulcerative keratitis commonly diagnosed in veterinary ophthalmology with a predominant lymphocytic–plasmacytic infiltration. As therapy can be frustrating and can lead to side effects, a therapeutic alternative is of great interest. Given the immunomodulatory properties of stem cells and extracellular microvesicles, new therapeutic routes are now available using stem cells, extracellular microvesicles alone or combined with cell treatment.
The purposes of this study are:

  • To prove the inhibitor effect of allogenic muscle-derived mesenchymal stem cells (md-MSCs)
    conditioned media (RLC) on lymphocytes
  • To describe the effect of RLC in horses affected by IMMK.
