Maria-Christine Fischer graduated from Ludwig-Maximillians-University of Munich in 2012. After a small animal internship at the Clinic for Small Animal Surgery and Reproduction of Ludwig-Maximillians-University, she continued to work at the clinic for two years with a focus on ophthalmology. During this time she completed a doctoral thesis on Progression on Complications of Canine Cataracts. Following this she undertook the ECVO residency program at Dick White Referrals. Maria-Christine stayed at Dick White Referrals as a Clinical Fellow before moving to the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2019.
